Operation Cross Country

fbi2Operation Cross Country IX is not a marathon, but it is a rigorous track and field event.  The trackers come from a diverse field of law enforcement agencies, and the event is focused on saving kids.

As an ongoing national effort, Operation Cross Country IX, is a nationwide crackdown on sex trafficking.  The FBI joined forces with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and took the lead in this effort that rescued 149 underage trafficking victims.

Additionally, more than 150 pimps were arrested.  These puss-pockets of humanity are so sleazy they were selling kids as young as 12 years old.

FBI Director James Comey said:  “Our mission is to protect the American people — especially our children — from harm. When kids are treated as a commodity in seedy hotels and on dark roadsides, we must rescue them from their nightmare and severely punish those responsible for that horror. We simply must continue to work with our partners to end the scourge of sex trafficking in our country.”

There are several organizations that focus their energy on rescuing those who are trapped in the commercial sex trade.  Shared Hope International is one of them, and you can gain a better understanding of their work by watching a brief 2 minute video.  Simply click here.

The Lord says: “Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.”  ~Jeremiah 22:3

When Light Dispels the Shadows

cambodiaIn a recent article in Christianity Today, an article chronicled an important change in Cambodia.  A decade ago, this Southeast Asian country was a mecca of sex tourism, and many of the sex workers were only 15 years old or younger.

Cambodia has changed from being a nation of few laws and little social accountability to one that has established anti-trafficking police units in every province and a reporting hotline that is staffed by Christians.

When light dispels the shadows, it’s because Christians are embracing the mandate Jesus gave to the church:  “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).”

What dark corner of your world needs to be illuminated by the power of God’s love?

Citizen’s Arrest

images-humantrafficking_tm_524883229No citizen should be at rest when far too many children cannot be at ease. When it comes to the subject of human trafficking, we ought to be self-appointed traffic cops. I made this statement in a blog I wrote about a year ago, and I thought of it again after hearing of the abduction of some Nigerian girls.

The Boko Haram are terrorists operating in and around Nigeria, and they’ve had schools, churches, and villages in their cross hairs. The “haram” portion of their name means “forbidden,” and they believe a western style education is a violation of Islamic law. The school girls from Nigeria are their latest victims, and they will most likely be sold as sex slaves.

Human trafficking is big business as it generates about $32 billion annually. How can anyone think of this as a profitable business when the loss column is framed with the images of innocent children—children victimized for the pleasure and sexual gratification of lowly scum?

Statistics tell us that two children are sold into the commercial sex trade every minute of every day. That is 525,600 a year X 2 children, which is over 1 million a year. Not just one year, but year after year. Think of how many precious lives have been ruined in your lifetime!

Even though President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, and the 13th Amendment declared slavery to be illegal, it has reared its ugly head in the form of sex trafficking; and it is a wicked scar on the face of humanity.

We need to pray for those who are preyed upon, and we need to support the efforts of those who are fighting the fight to free those who are still in bondage.

Citizen’s Arrest

No citizen should be at rest when far too many children cannot be at ease. When it comes to the subject of human trafficking, we ought to be self-appointed traffic cops.

Last Sunday I showed a video from love146.org to the people of First Christian Church. When the video ended, quite a few people who were wiping tears from their eyes.

We learned that human trafficking generates about $32 billion annually. It is incredibly hard for me to think of that as a profit when the loss column is framed with the images of innocent children—children victimized for the pleasure and sexual gratification of others.

Two children are sold into the commercial sex trade every minute of every day. That is 525,600 a year X 2 children, which is over 1 million a year. Not just one year, but year after year.

By the way, how old are you? How many precious lives have been ruined in your lifetime?

Even though President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, and the 13th Amendment declared slavery to be illegal, it continues today.

We need to pray for those who are preyed upon, and we need to support the efforts of those who are fighting the fight to free those who are still in bondage.

The Ugly Side of Humanity

Most every one of us know a little something about Abraham Lincoln.  We know he was our 16th president; he was assassinated; and, he opposed slavery.

A person who you may not know as much about is William Wilberforce.  This British politician was every bit as dedicated to eliminating slavery as was Lincoln.

People generally associate the end of slavery with Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation that he issued on January 1, 1863.  The proclamation declared “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free.”

While that form of slavery has ended within the territories of the United States, another form of this evil, sex trafficking,  has reared its ugly head.   The following quote will shed some light on this dark and ugly side of humanity:  Regardless of nationality, victims are systematically stripped of their identity, battered into gruesome submission and made to perform humiliating sexual acts with up to 40 strangers every night.  Held against their will, most are forced to take illegal drugs and are kept under constant surveillance.  On average, victims are thrown into such ghastly oppression at age 13 (Benjamin Nolot, Nefarious).

Let me share a few statistics with you:

  • There are 27 million enslaved people around the world.
  • Human trafficking is a 32 billion dollar a year industry
  • 80% of the trafficking victims are women and children who have been forced into the commercial sex trade
  • In the United States, the average age of entry into commercial sex slavery is 13.

It is one thing to be ignorant of this atrocity and do nothing.  It is something altogether different to have knowledge of this form of exploitation and then do nothing.

Now that you know, what will you do?  I encourage you to read what Sweden and Israel are doing to address this horrible crime against humanity (click here).  After reading the article, please contact your legislator and ask him to support any legislation that is similar to that which has been enacted in Sweden and Israel.

Get your feet off the floor because I am about to step on them.  Any time any one watches any form of pornography, that person is supporting and helping to fund this ugly side of humanity.

Here is a thought to keep you thinking.  What if it your daughter or granddaughter was forced into sexual slavery?  What would you do then?
